Countertops & backsplash

Choosing a surface

Quartz is the most forgiving choice for a busy kitchen. It doesn’t need sealing and resists stains, and the color is consistent from slab to slab.

Natural stone such as granite, marble, and quartzite gives you veining no factory can copy. Some stones need periodic sealing, and we’ll tell you which before you choose.

Butcher block warms up an island or a baking station. It needs oiling and can scratch, and many people like that it shows use.

How the work goes

Countertops are templated after the cabinets are installed, so the measurements match what is actually in the room. We coordinate the sink and cooktop cutouts with the plumbing and appliance work, then set the backsplash once the tops are in.

What’s included

  • Help choosing a slab, including a visit to the stone yard if you want one
  • Digital templating after cabinet install
  • Sink, cooktop, and faucet cutouts
  • Backsplash tile, grout, and sealing
  • Removal and disposal of the old tops

Questions we hear

Quartz or granite?

Quartz needs no sealing and looks consistent from slab to slab. Granite and other natural stones have unique veining and hold up to heat well, but some need periodic sealing. We will show you both and explain the upkeep before you choose.

Can you replace countertops without new cabinets?

Often, if the cabinets are level and sound. We check them at the consultation, because a new stone top on a sagging cabinet will crack.
